I honestly didn't think I would be talking about the Ravens being 0-2 this season, with the possibility of starting 0-3. I think all around I place a lot of this blame on John. It was a frustrating lost. It's one of the more frustrating losses in recent memory. Between the refs and taking our foot off the gas. I think that honestly the thing i take away from John's coaching. He always seems to make games closer then they have to be. I'm going to be doing a break down below. I'm not going to break down everything so much like i did last week.
Coaches
John missed both challenges this game and i would say both challenges were fairly obvious that they weren't going to get overturned. He's been horrible with challenges over the course of his career. He's not been the best time manager. I hated the fact that we toke our foot off the gas after that last touch down drive. Offensively was a struggle through out the day. Play calling was inconsistent but not terrible. Defense called a good game. Should have maybe covered Adams and Bowers more because they were the only ones that scared me and the made us pay. The last 3 drives were pitiful and terrible.
Total Grade = D
QB
Lamar played well. Not great but good. He still can't throw the ball deep. He struggles so much throwing the ball over 20 yards. Missed a big throw to Andrews early on. The interception was a typical Lamar interception. The defense squatting on the short throws and Lamar thinking he could fit it into an incredibly tight window. He made less plays with his legs today then against KC. He's a smart enough runner to get down and not take a hit that he can afford to run. I do think the late hits on Lamar are starting to get old.
Grade = C
RB
King Henry finally got rolling late in the game. Late in the game is when the King Henry is supposed to be used. He was not used on the final 2 drives. Like I don't understand what was going through the OC's head on those drives, where we had a lead and we had a back that Hot heading into the 4th. Justice did his Job spelling Henry.
Grade = B
TE
Andrew's finally got involved in the offense this week. Likely toke a fall back to either but still make a few people miss when required. I think Likely needs to be a better blocker if used in that role. All and all they did their job. I think as Andrews starts getting his playing legs back under him he will return to form.
Grade = B
WR Zay played well. I think continuing to get Zay involved is the key to getting this offense to form. Bateman made an impressive catch. Lamar and him need to get in sync. I don't want to talk about the 3rd WR. He needs to be bench.
Grade = C ( Mainly because of AGHOLOR)
OL
The left side played well this week. Ronnie Stanley is looking like he is returning to form. Vorhees has 1 penalty that i remember but overall played well. Linderbaum looked great. The dark spot on this line is the RIght side. Personally i like Mekari but as a swing tackle. Crosby was embrassing him and Faallae all day. I think Faallae is not a good guard. He is too slow to pull. Every time he was told to pull he was running behind the RB. Rosengarten played well when he played. The few times i keyed on him he was handling Crosby. Hopefully he moves into the starting line up sooner rather then later.
Grade = C
DL
The DL played good. Really good. They limited the running lanes and created pressure on Minshew. Madibuke had a terrible penalty that shouldn't have been a penalty. Him and Pierce created pressure up the center.
Grade = A
LB
Linebackers are a mixed bag. The rush ends created pressure and had 5-6 sacks between Van Noy and Oweh. Hopefully Oweh can continue building from this big game. His career has been like this. Some big games and then disappears. Without knowing the defense called or watching ALL 22 film, I don't know if it was the linebackers or the safeties for the continued big plays by Bowers.
Grade = B
Secondary
I can't be to harsh on the secondary. The biggest plays by the raiders were Adams and Penalties. I think stephen played better then Marlon. I am noticing those 2 getting picked on more then our younger guys. I'm stilling waiting on Hamiliton to make the big play's he has been making over the past 2 years. I think Zach Orr has to create some packages to get him involved more then he has been.
Grade = B
Special Teams
As a Ravens fan i never thought i would giving the Special teams the grade i am going to give them but damnit man. From Tucker being terrible at Field Goals beyond 50 and Stout shanking that punt. He's getting a habit of shanking big punts in big situation's. We had one big return. But as good as Tucker is, He is only as good as his last few kicks. The Ravens have gotten used to Tucker being mister Automatic but he hasn't been as of late.
Grade = D
In Conclusion, Defense played well early and fell apart late. I blame most of that struggle on Turnovers and poor field position. Offense was hot for 2 drives and struggled for the rest. Next week needs to be a win or the season is in trouble. Granted I think the AFC North title is still up for grabs. The steelers aren't as good as their 2-0 record and the browns greatly overrated. I think we win the Division this year regardless of the 0-2 start. But the next few weeks are big for the team.
Team Grade = C
